Vice President Kamala Harris made her first appearance at the Democratic National Convention, kicking off its primetime lineup with one of her signature lines, “When we fight, we win.”

There had been buzz on the floor that Harris would make an appearance, given the presence of the vice president’s pool in the arena.

Harris was greeted by delegates’ thunderous applause wearing a tan suit that, some observers noted, was likely a nod to Barack Obama’s so-called tan suit controversy. It’s come to be known as a non-event which had conservative pundits like Lou Dobbs clutching their pearls when he wore it to a press conference in 2014.

“I want to kick us off by celebrating our incredible President Joe Biden,” Harris said, as the president will deliver a speech that will finish up the evening. “…Joe thank you for your historic leadership and your lifetime of service to our nation…We are forever grateful to you.”

“Looking out at everyone tonight, I see the beauty of our great nation, people from every corner of our country and every walk of life are here, united by our shared vision for the future of our country.”

In the arena was Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, as well as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the vice presidential nominee.

Harris was wearing a tan suit, something that was quickly noted on social media, as it evoked the time that Barack Obama once wore that color when he was president. That became a joke among his team, as the sartorial choice generated news coverage and controversy.
