The first winners of the 76th Emmy Awards were revealed today as the Television Academy unveiled its honorees in the juried categories spanning animation, costume, innovation in emerging media programming and motion design.
Netflix toon series Blue Eye Samurai was the lone multiple honoree, and it took three juried Emmys — winning for Storyboard, Production Design and Character Design, the last of which was shared with Max’s now-wrapped Clone High. Another canceled Max toon, Scavengers Reign, took the toon prize for Background Design. See the full list below.
The streamers and HBO dominated the juried awards. Other winners include Max’s Adventure Time and Taylor Mac’s 24-Decade History of Popular Music, Peacock’s In the Know and Disney+’s What If… and the documentary Jim Henson Idea Man from director Ron Howard.
Winners will receive their statuettes during the two Creative Arts Emmys ceremonies next month. Most will be handed out during Night 1 on Saturday, September 7; the Outstanding Motion Capture prize, won by Jim Henson Idea Man, will be presented the following night. Both events will be held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, and an edited presentation will air Saturday, September 14, on FXX starting at 8 p.m. PT.
The Juried categories allow for the possibility of one, more than one or no entry awarded an Emmy; there are no nominees but rather a one-step evaluation and voting procedure.
