Scarlett Johansson first got into acting at eight years old when she appeared in an off-Broadway production of Sophistry with Ethan Hawke. She chose to study at Manhattan’s PCS, where she pursued musical theater.

After appearing in North (1994) with Elijah Wood and Manny & Lo, her breakout was in The Horse Whisperer (1998) alongside Robert Redford and Kristin Scott Thomas. She portrayed a young amputee. She then appeared in Ghost World (2001), and she went on to star in Lost in Translation (2003) and Girl with a Pearl Earring (2003). Then came The Black Dahlia (2006), The Nanny Diaries (200&), Vicky Christina Barcelona (2008) and other Woody Allen films as a frequent collaborator with the director.

Johansson recorded an album of duets with Peter Yorn called Break Up, which they released in 2009. She released a solo album Anywhere I Lay My Head in 2008. In 2009, she debuted on Broadway in a revival of Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge with Liev Schrieber. She won a Tony Award for her performance.

Johansson appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2010 in Iron Man 2 (2010) with Robert Downey Jr. Her next appearance in the role came about in The Avengers (2012). She would go on to reprise the role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: The Age of Ultron (2015), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Black Widow (2021), her feature film about Natasha Romanoff, the Russian spy, featured more of the character’s backstory. Aside from Marvel movies, she also appeared in We Bought a Zoo in 2011 with Matt Damon, Hitchcock(2012), Her as the voice of Samantha (2013), Chef (2014), Lucy(2014) and more. She voiced characters like Nutmeg in Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs (2018) as well as Ash in Sing (2016) and Sing 2 (2021).

She was nominated for Oscars for her performances in Marriage Story (2019) with Adam Driver and Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit (2019). She landed the Best Actress nod for Marriage Story and Best Supporting Actress for Jojo Rabbit.

In Sept. 2008, Johansson married Ryan Reynolds, but they divorced in December 2010. She dated actor Sean Penn for a bit, and then she married journalist Romain Dauriac in Oct. 2014 after the birth of their daughter Rose that September. The couple divorced in 2017. She married SNL “Weekend Update” anchor and comedian Colin Jost in Oct. 2020, and they had their first child in August 2021.

Johansson most recently joined the upcoming Jurassic World 4 film in the works from director Gareth Edwards. She will star alongside Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton, Fellow Travelers), Luna Blaise, Ruper Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo.
