Kamala Harris‘ first 2024 presidential campaign video features the soundtrack of Beyonce‘s “Freedom” to outline the stakes of the race.
“There are some people who think we should be a country of chaos. Of fear. Of hate,” Harris says in the voiceover, with images of her Republican rival, Donald Trump.
“But us. We choose something different. We choose freedom.”
“The freedom not just to get by, but get ahead. The freedom to be safe from gun violence. The freedom to make decisions about your own body. We choose a future where no child lives in poverty. Where we all can afford health care, where no one is above the law.” The video then features an image of Trump’s mug shot, which his campaign has tried to turn into a net positive.
“We believe in the promise of America and we are ready to fight for it,” Harris says.
The video is airing across the campaign’s social media platforms. A number of campaign veterans, meanwhile, are calling for Harris to quickly launch paid ads to counter an effort by Trump’s team to define her negatively.
Beyonce’s “Freedom” was heard when Harris appeared at campaign headquarters on Monday to thank campaign staffers, and the fact that the singer gave the OK to use the music was viewed as a potential signal of her support.
